Called by God to leave Ur for a land he had never seen, Abraham believed the promise that his descendants would become a great nation and a blessing to all peoples. His faith — even in being asked to offer Isaac — became the pattern of trust in God.

A Semitic herdsman of the patriarchal age (roughly the early second millennium BC) — most likely olive-to-bronze skinned and bearded, dressed in a woven wool tunic and cloak for the semi-nomadic life of the Levant.
